Biggest Loser

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

The season opener of Biggest Loser is on. We went for a walk before hand to make up for all the TV watching.

Glad to see Dan is back. I felt bad when he got the boot last year. I am also glad to see Mike’s brother is on. I felt bad for him when Mike and his dad were losing all that weight and he was at home alone.

And if you don’t know who these people are, turn on your tv already!

Oh there is much drama already!

From Bad to just Goofy

Believe me, no one was happier than me when it was reported Paula was off American Idol.

Her incoherent ramblings made my head hurt.

But Ellen? Really?

What (other than lame dancing) does she know about music? Just another judge to fast forward through. What was wrong with just 3?

I hate to make empty threats about boycotting the show, even though I make them every year for some reason or another (Taylor Hicks anyone?), but I might be serious this time.

I just don’t get it.

Two topics for the price of well, none, it’s free to read my blog

I came in from outside just in time to catch the first song on American Idol.

A couple of notes about that…

I am so glad it is only an hour long. I just assumed it would be 2 (Biggest Loser was 3 and far less interesting).

I do not like it when they sing songs they have done already. I understand why they do it,  it’s alot of pressure to learn 3 new songs. Having said that, I think they both chose good songs to repeat, if they must.

Now on to Adam Lambert…He did not invent that rendition of Mad World. I have heard that song sung that way before. Not that he doesn’t sing it well, he just isn’t the genius they think he is. It would help if the judges turned on a radio once in a while.

That was an awesome performance by Kris. I love that he busted out the piano.

I hate to make empty threats (see also Taylor Hicks) but if Adam wins, I am considering boycotting next year.

Ok, back to the outside business. I had a magazine article about making containers for attracting butterflys and hummingbirds. I have seen a couple of hummingbirds already, so I thought that sounded like fun. I took my magazine to the greenhouse across the street from work and the lady helped me pick out plants. They were having a good sale so I bought way too many and ended up with several pots instead of just one.

Alright Adam Lambert enough with the screaming.

The skeeters are out in full force, which made planting interesting. I did not know you could sprint while planting flowers, but I did. I have never planted pots so fast in my life. I also planted some marigolds to try and keep the deer away from my peppers and tomatoes. They are on the deck, but I’m taking no chances.

Can someone tell me why these judges are so in love with this guy? I think only dogs can hear some of those notes.

My boy Kris Allen is coming on. Can you say PERFECT song choice?? These judges are idiots. Do they not get that he is a laid back guy and that is why people love him? Not everyone likes people who sound like ambulance sirens when they sing, but apparently these idiots do. I feel like ripping Randy’s ugly tie off and shoving it in his mouth so he can no longer talk.

Not that I’m bitter.

What are those pants Lambert is wearing?

I hate this song. Kara, I think you are great but this is horrible. Really what do I expect? The songs they write for them every year are lyrics ripped from a 13 year old girls diary put to a casio keyboard.

Prediction-Adam is going to win, put out an album sell like 5,000 copies, get dropped from the label and tour the country starring in Rent in third rate theaters.

Kris is actually make this song not sound like total drivel. How is that possible? New prediction-Kris, win or lose, is going to sell a bazillion records.

He totally beat Adam with a baseball bat mob style on this one. The judges don’t know what to do now. Their pride and joy just got served.

The vote off show is going to be 2 hours? Is that neccesary? We only care about the last 5 minutes.

Go Kris!

AI Top Five

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

American Idol has been a little boring this year, so I haven’t talked about it much.

When the got down to the top five it got exciting! Funny things happens in the top five. The front runners sometimes play it too safe or too much the same. Which happened this week. Adam (front runner for some unkown reason) and Kris (front runner for very good reasons) were both in the bottom 3.

Unfortunately, our local hero Matt was also in the bottom three and turned out to be the bottom one.

Adam is so over dramtic and belongs on broadway, not on the radio. They some how think his over the top antics are brilliant. They’re not. They are stupid. I think America finally figured that out, which is why he was in the bottom two.

Kris is always solid and always very Kris. Which he was this week, but the thing about the top five is that’s not enough. You need to bring it.

And that’s where Danny Gokey comes in. The guy is a good singer, and has been getting by on that. The problem has been that he is boring, has no stage presence. Until last night. Dude Brought it. Which is why he was not in the bottom three. I would so love to hear him sing some Third Day, but I know Simon would hate it. For some reason, I think Danny should do Christian Rock.

Next is Alison. She’s done her rock chick thing, and people go crazy. I don’t know, I just did dig it that much. Seemed like a lot yelling and crazy outfits. Last night, she totally mixed it up, slowed it down, and sang. That last part is the most important. She didn’t yell, she just sang. And it was good.

People were surprised to see Adam and Kris in the bottom three. Not me. Not after those two threw it down.

Football and Teen Drama!

Friday Night Lights is back this Friday.

If you have been watching it on your dish, I don’t want to know about it.

If you have not watched it, you need to because it is awesome and I want it to be on regular programming again.

AI is back!

American Idol starts this week and apparently there are more changes coming than just that new judge.

I for one am glad to see less train wrecks at the begining. Too many people are just there to get some air time and purposely make a fool of themself. It is not compelling or interesting.

I have mixed feelings about the new judge, rumor is she is going to be more harsh, like Simon. I am no Paula fan, but I do appreciate the balance she provides to Simon. And Seriously, nobody does crazy like Paula.

There is also extended Hollywood Week(s), which is one of my favorite parts of the show. I enjoy getting to know the contestents and seeing how they react to being in Hollywood. Do they stay up all night and work super hard? Or Do they goof off because it’s the first time with no supervision? It really shows who wants to be there.

There is also something about a wild card, which I don’t quite get. And they are ending the 50/50 split with guys & girls. I say yeah! The best singers should get through, boy or girl.

I am so excited that I don’t have to endure as much bad singing this year before the good singing starts!

If you order now, you get your own show

I think Infomercial King Billy Mays must have gotten a new agent or something.

First, I see these commercials while watching football with hubs (which are hilarious, by the way).

And then I see that he’s getting his own reality show.

Although, who doesn’t have their own reality show? Maybe that is not the best judge of a good agent.

It seems the world’s most famous sales man is branching out. My favorite thing is how he starts every commercial with

“Hi, Billy Mays here…”

And then goes on to tell you what he’s pitching as if he is someone who’s opinion we should value. And strangely enough, we do.

The States

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

The History Channel has been playing The States all afternoon. I’ve watched 3 or 4 of them. You lose track.

It is really interesting. They not only go over things each state is known for, but also some lesser known but interesting facts.

Since it is our goal to eventually visit all 50 states, I like hearing about what each state has to offer. I also enjoy hearing facts about places we’ve already visited.

Because I am a huge nerd.

We have rules regarding our state visits. If we have already been there individually, it doesn’t count. We have to go together.

Also, you can not just drive through. This rule brought upon the realization that we have never actually visited Indiana, despite the fact that it is just South of us. We have been through Indiana about a million times on our way to other places, but never stopped according to the rules.

For it to fit the rules, we have visit a large city, see something they are known for, or take in one of their natural offerings (hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, etc).

We haven’t crossed off too many yet. Our most recent states were Iowa and Missouri. People thought I was crazy when I said I was going to Iowa for my anniversary. When they asked why, I just told them “because we haven’t crossed it off yet!”

Had to rush home from art class because Pushing Daisies premiered tonight. I have a big project I’m working on that I will show you maybe next week (if I finish and it doesn’t look like crap.) We were talking about getting our Christmas cards made tonight. Seems early, but you have to make the design and then get them printed, so it’s best to not be last minute.

Back to the show- I do love this show!

The visuals are awesome of course, but it’s the dialogue that I love. It’s so fast paced and sometimes just plain crazy. The cases are sometimes a little goofy, but it’s a fairytale show so I excuse it.

My other favorite part of this show is Chuck’s outfits.

I know I said I would not talk politics on this blog…

When I first heard who the republican nomination was for VP, I think I had the same reaction as a lot of people.

Who???

Who is this woman from Alaska? And really, Alaska? Aren’t they practically Canadians?

So last night we were introduced to Sarah. I was very skeptical of this unknown lady. All I had heard was that she is young and attractive. Not exactly the qualities I am looking for in elected officials.

After her speech last night all I can say is, Love. Her.

She is smart, strong, and sassy. It’s not always easy for women to pull off those qualities and still be likable. But she did.

They did not sell me completely on her qualifications for office, but we are talking about the VP here. (I know, I know heart beat away and all that) But as a woman in power, generally speaking, I’m sold. I still need to hear more from her, but I feel more comfortable with her being a woman in a history making position than others. I get the impression she is not a “stand by your man” kind of gal.

You can easily see why politically, McC would choose her. She compliments him, fills in those places where he is lacking. And it was a smart move. She has people talking, and people fired up. That is exactly what he needed.

I will not be staying up for McC’s speech tonight. All this democracy has me exhausted. I would like to but I am still getting over the Ohio Bird Flu or whatever it is they gave me down there. As a matter of fact, I am kind regretting that decision to put the last load of laundry in. I’m not sure if I will be able to make through to the end.
