Big Day for a Little Guy

Monday, January 4th, 2010

When we took Marvin in to get his shots updated, the vet noticed that he had an infected tooth. She suggested we bring him in after Maisy got settled to get it looked at. Of course it took longer than we thought to get Maisy settled due to all her vet visits.

So I scheduled it for after the holidays when things were a little less busy. Well, that day came and it was today.

I was really dreading it because you have to take him in and drop him off to be picked up later. I have never left him anywhere, ever, except home. So I had a pit in my stomach just thinking about it.

I should mention here that I am “that” lady when it comes to my cats.

So I was (of course) wide awake a 3 am worrying about it. Then when I got up to get around the cats were all confused because I wasn’t giving them any breakfast. Hubs fed Maisy after we left (who was very confused as to where her brother went).

I ended up having to have Hubs help me get Marvin into the carrier and into the car, even though I thought I could do it myself. When we put him in the car he made this cry that sounded like a new born baby and we both just stared at each other for a second. Oh dear…

Marvin cried all the way there, as per usual, and had a little accident in the carrier. All this was expected.

Then I got there and the vet started explaining about how they had to sedate him and…why is it so hot in here?? I am totally freaking out now.

Then she takes him from me to go into the other room and he looks at me with those eyes…

I need to get out of here asap!

By the time I got to work I was a total wreck.

I managed to make it through the morning and about lunch time I was getting anxious that I hadn’t heard anything.

So I asked Em if she thought it would be neurotic to call…I mean if anything was wrong they would have called, right…and they said they would call when they were done, so they are probably not done yet…

She was like, Just call already!

So I told them when I called I’m the crazy cat lady and I am freaking out. Then she told me they had to pull 3 teeth!

THREE TEETH!

Oh my word, that poor buddy! Now I am just super anxious to get him home, but I can’t pick him up until 6.  What a long day!

We got him home and they said he was super good and very brave. Now he is just completely stoned out of his gourd. His eyes are like crossed he’s so out of it.

Maisy is still a little out of sorts because he’s not acting right and she can’t figure it out.

It was an awful big adventure for our little guy. Who for some reason looks even smaller to me today…

Cat Tales (ha ha)

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Just had one cat on my lap and one cat sitting next to me. I would say they are making peace with each other.

Although in the morning it seems Marvin’s favorite game is called “Chase Maisy around until I back her into a corner and she hisses at me.”

Yeah! he won like three times!

At one point during the chase someone went to turn a corner and their brakes didn’t work on the hardwood flooring, which sent the sailing towards the Christmas tree. I don’t have to worry about them climbing it, but running into it.

Weirdo Cats.

Kitty update

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

We picked up Maisy this morning (they had a bunch of new kittens into today. THREE nubtails! I wanted them all). She was super good in the car. She didn’t cry or anything (no poop either – yay!)

So far the cats are not aware of each other. We are trying to get her settled first.

We keep petting one, then the other, repeat so they are getting used to each others smell.

She’s going to be a trouble maker. We can tell that already! Despite all of our efforts to close everything off so she couldn’t hide away somewhere that we couldn’t get to, she did. After lunch Hubs went back down to check on her and calls for me saying he can’t find her.

It’s just one room, where did she go? We finally found her up above one of the storage cabinets.

Uh oh. She’s a climber!

More to come later…

The Cat Chronicles

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Forgive me,  I am slightly obsessed with the cat situation right now. I am considering changing my blog to The Cat Chronicles.

Hubs took Marvin to the vet this morning and things did not go great. He had 3 poops on the way there (Marvin, not hubs). Luckily, hubs did not throw up on the way there, which is a real possibility.

They cleaned him up at the vet and he made it back home poop free.

He had to get 3 shots (poor baby!) so he is sore and tired tonight. He cries when you pick him up, so we’ve been letting him be.

He’s hiding out in his hammock (which is in the lining of the chair downstairs) and won’t come out. We called our family Vet Tech and she assured us that this is normal.

Still breaks my heart though.

We also found out he has a tooth issue that will have to be addressed. Which means a trip BACK to the vet.

Oh dear.

UPDATE: Woke up at 5 am to check Marvin (told you I was crazy) and he seems to be back to normal. He was out of the hammock and in his blanket. I checked his food dish, and he had eaten over night. We came up stairs and laid on the couch until it was time for me to get around for work. Now he’s just waiting impatiently for his breakfast.

Crazy Cat Lady

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

We stopped by and visited Maisy on the way home. I think she has a little cold and seemed tired and not to interested in playing tonight. Marv had a little cold when we brought him home from kitty jail too.

The Pet Smart people are going to start to recognize me. I’ve been there 3 days in a row. I just want to bring my girl home!

Hubs is taking Marvin to the vet tomorrow. That could prove to be interesting. Marv is not a fan of the carrier, the car, or the vet.

Also, he has to take in a poop sample. Hubs is not a fan of poop.

So, It’s double bagged.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for Maisy’s arrival. I got her a new food dish, some toys, and a scratching post. I have to find a blanket for her to lay on and get her stink on. Then we have to trade blankets so the kitties can used to each others smell before the meet.

We also invested in a new carrier to pick her up in and to take them to the vet in. Our old carrier was kind of small, and we are hoping a larger carrier might make the trip less traumatic.

I’m anxious for her to come (if you can’t tell). I hope they get along!

I’ve told him- NO FRIENDS OVER!

At 5:15 this morning I am awoken by a howling cat in the living room.

Oh boy, must be another cat outside. That’s the usual cause of such a ruckus.

Get out in the living room, turn on the outside light and there is something furry, striped, and fat (not unlike the crying kitty). It’s not a cat though, it’s a raccoon.

They are just staring at each other through the glass at this point.

I sort of imagined the conversation had gone something like this-

Raccoon: “You look sort of like me. Your striped and fat, but you don’t have a tail.”

Marvin: “Well you have a pointy nose!” (He’s kind of sensitive on the topic of his tail, or lack there of)

Raccoon: “Dude, sorry, I’m just saying, you know, we’re similar but not the same.”

Marvin: “Yeah I guess. Hey my lady is here.”

“Why is she yelling at you?”

Raccoon: “I don’t think she likes me. Where is she going?”

Marvin: “Oh here comes my other person. I’m so excited for them to meet my new friend.”

Racoon: “Uh Oh. Gotta Go!”

Marvin’s Big Adventure

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Tonight after dinner Marvin was staring out the window quite intently. Hubs went to investigate and there was a chipmunk just outside the window.

Hubs then decided it would be fun to put Marvin outside “to see what he would do”. I was very much against this plan since he is an inside kitty and my baby.

He kind of snooped around a little smelling stuff. The chipmunk, meanwhile, stopped in his tracks hoping to go unnoticed.

I’m not sure who moved first, but as soon as Marvin noticed the critter, both took off running. I, of course, was screaming “GET HIM!!”

Just what I need is my kitty chasing this stupid chipmunk into the woods!

He only ran to the corner of the house and stopped as hubs was calling him. He seemed a little confused as to how he got where he was. So I went out on the front step and called him back.

He came right back and scooted inside. Good Boy.

Sweeping and Chickens

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Spent about an hour sweeping the floor Monday night. When your entire main floor is wood (except the bath which is tile) it is a major undertaking.

It’s spring, so there are little  Marvins in every corner and under every table. I have been trying to keep up with them with the Swiffer, but  they were winning. So he got furminated and the whole house get swept.

Then we watched chicks being born over on farmer’s wife. And I mean WE. Marvin had his face glued to my laptop screen for the entire four minutes. I had to turn the sound off because he was losing his mind. But even with the sound off he just stared at those chicks. It was very funny. I’m beginning to think he spent his previous life on a farm. He also liked to watch pigs on TV.

“Do I look like I would lose my mind over some chicks?”

New Table

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Well new to us anyway. We had a tiny dining room (well, room might be stretching it, area might be more appropriate) at the old house, so we had a tiny table. We have a big dining room here at the new house, so I wanted a new table. I found one on Craigslist (hence the new to us part).

We bought our old table from a neighbor. Hubs wondered if anyone ever buys new furniture. I figure someone must start the chain.

It was raining, so we were not able to put it in the trailer. We were going to pick up the chairs and come back for the table. Then she told us that the legs come off, so we got the table and all six chairs in the back of the Subaru. The old girl comes through again!

Here’s out new big table.

.

We left the leaf out (it’s self storing-fancy!) because we have the room and did not want to have to find a home for 2 chairs. The leaf part is a little darker from being stored, but it doesn’t look too bad and will catch up eventually.

Here’s what the chairs look like. The fabric isn’t terrible, but I plan on changing it when I figure out what I am doing with curtains and stuff.

Marvin’s been busy smelling it and rubbing his cheeks on all the legs. He’s going to be quite busy with six chairs.

I’m super excited. I can’t wait to have dinner guest now that we have room for everyone to eat!
