For where two or three gather together

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

What if instead of 2 or 3 there are 7200?

I attended the Beth Moore Living Proof Live event with some friends this weekend. They had predicted 4000 people would come.

We were actually part of a crowd of 7200 women and a few brave men.

Friday night opened with some great worship led  by Travis Cottrell and the praise band. It was pretty awesome to hear 7200 voices singing to the Lord. It was also a little strange because when it’s all women singing, there’s no bass, no low notes.

Then Beth came out and she is a high energy sassy Southern lady.

Did I mention high energy? Because she is Energetic with a capital E.

I had heard of her and of Travis Cottrell, but I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was a big ‘ol bible study. We didn’t know that so none of us brought bibles.

Oops.

So Saturday morning -bright and early (which did not effect her energy level. May have even brought it UP a notch)-some of us remembered to bring our bibles.

I was not one of them.

Did I mention the bright and early part? On a Saturday? I’m glad I remembered to bring myself.

We weren’t sure what one person could talk about for 3 hours on a Friday and another 3 hours on a Saturday, but she has so many words to get out she actually ran short on time.

There were some great lessons (more on that later) and something for everyone. There is no way you could come away and say none of that applied to me.

The other thing I liked is that it isn’t a canned, over rehearsed thing. She has new lessons for each event she does and goes on tangents depending on how things are going. It seemed a little all over the place at first, but after a while you get it.

I wasn’t quite sure if a big thing like this would be for me, but I was with a great group of ladies and as one of them said- It’s pretty awesome to be gathered together with this many believers.

Walk on the Wild Side

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Friday night we had dinner at a friends house. They have 3 boys, age 7, 4 (and half, he would want me to get that in there) and 2.

It is always so fun to go there. The noise level is very different that what we are used to. As is the activity level. Three boys are very very busy, all the time, every minute. It’s no wonder she’s so skinny.

We got them each a funny little book for Christmas. Which I did not think would be any big deal. But they loved them. The oldest one had them all read in no time.  As soon as the littlest guy opened his, he was telling Hubs “read! read!”

The oldest one could take 2 of the books up to bed with him and the middle one could choose one. I thought it was very funny that he chose the book he had opened and said “that’s mine!”

They are so funny. The two oldest one have all kinds of stories to tell, most of which I don’t catch because I’m not used to kid speak. But it was funny none the less.

The fort

When we went to our friends house warming party over the weekend we had planned on just grabbing a hotel room somewhere.
Unfortunately, so were about a million other people who were down for Notre Dame football game.
Luckily, our friends had an extra air mattress, so they set us up in this sweet fort!
I was upstairs grazing the buffet, while Hubs and my friend squirrelled away downstairs setting up our place.
I came down expecting just a bed in the middle of the room. But instead, we had this super cute fort, with little close pins holding the “door” open.
I love it!

Autumn arrives in many forms, including toes

Skipped Art Studio last night so that I could hang with my girls. They were going to one of my favorite delis for dinner and then going to get pedicures.

It was a tough call.

I chose a nice fall color,  Smokin in Havana.

In other fall time news (never mind that it is 77 degrees right now) Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back. I stopped to get a coffee today and there it was on a big sign!

Yumm…

I’m a little disappointed that my coffee insiders did not let me know this when I saw them last week.

You know who you are.

Today’s Big Adventure!

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Got together with the girls today and went to a very big arts and crafts show. There was a lot of jewelery (as there always is at these things) and a lot of handmade bags and purses. I also noticed a fair amount of woodworking, like wood bowls and that sort of thing.

There was a good diversity of booths overall. There was yard art, knitted things, fine art, photography, candles, soaps, pottery, doll clothes, and so on. It was a lot to look at that’s for sure!

The weather was perfect. It started to sprinkle  a little as we walked back to the car. It was a little windy. The wind gives me a stomach ache thinking about having a booth. There was this beautifual stained glass booth we were walking by just as the wind gusted. I know when we had our art booths the wind was enough to drive me crazy.

I did not buy anything, but had a fun time hanging out with my friends. They each bought a little something.

I saw these one bags that were a great idea. They were made out of really cute fabric and came in small, medium, and large. The inside was vinyl so she called them “Icky Bags”. The small one is just the right size for a dirty diaper and the larger ones would fit swim suits and beach stuff. They are machine washable and dryable.  So you can throw wet or messy things in there until you get home and they are reusable and cute!

And cute is very important when you might have to pack up someones shirt who threw up on the Wildcat.

There was some really neat metal yard art. This one booth had a corn feeder for squirrels made out metal in the shape of a corn stalk and you put the corns on where the corn would go. It was really cute. It even had tassels at the top.

But I don’t feed the squirrels, just the deer, out of my flower beds breakfast buffet.

I had intentions of working on the front door when I got back but it is raining. And I’m tired from all the arting and crafting.

Happy Birthday Em!

Sheep crossing the road…Not quite as funny as the goats.

My Monday Morning Started at Noon

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I only worked 1/2 a day today because I was not feeling well. Too much activity this weekend I guess.

Saturday we did not get home until after midnight from our Chinese New Year party. We had a lot of fun and ate a boat load of food. My friend made homemade eggrolls and crab rangoons. I helped her make the rangoons and there were 48 wrappers in the package. There were no rangoons left at the end of the night (eight people, you do the math). Then they got a bunch of take out Chinese food. Well, of course you have to take a little of everything…

After playing card games for a while she came out with mini cheese cakes! And they were awesome. Had I not just eaten all that other food, I could have cleared the whole tray.

We had so much fun laughing and talking and playing games. After getting home so late Hubs and I were a little slow with the house work on Sunday. We cut the day short and I took a nap. Which was good because we did not get home until late after the Superbowl party we went to. More fun, More Food…

No idea why I didn’t feel good today. So wierd.

Visit from an old freind

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

My BFF Sarah stopped by yesterday with one of her three boys (honestly, how does she do it? THREE BOYS). He is six (when did that happen?) and very funny and sweet. We made popcorn in the popcorn maker and that was a big hit.

We also peeked at the cat under the bad, which was not such a big hit for the cat. He’s not a big fan of strangers especially the short ones.

We don’t get to see them very much so it was good to see her. She is planning a mission trip to Romania. I know that is something she’s wanted to do for a long time, so I am really glad it’s working out this time. How big her heart is to find room for this when they have so much going on already.

Dad will be staying home for 10 days with the boys. Male bonding and all that.

We are planning to get together at their house after the new year. They like to have us over because we don’t have kids and are readily available. Also, I think they like to know what people with out kids talk about.

But honestly, it’s probably not that different, because we mostly act like kids ourselves. You know, I like to talk about my professional status in Wii bowling, doing arts and crafts, and watching Christmas specials on TV. Hubs might want to talk about go-carts and how he does not have professional status in Wii bowling. Actually, I guess he doesn’t like to talk about that second thing so much…

See, not so different.

Girls Nite

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Here are my knitting friends on Thursday’s Girls Nite. K is knitting a bag (giant pink thing on her lap-to be felted & shrunk). There was also a mitten lesson. That’s my BFF Em with the striped socks.
I worked on my bookmarks, because I don’t knit. Mostly I’m just there for the snacks and the conversation. I made a boat load of bookmarks. Here’s some examples. You can’t tell here, but they come in plastic sleeves.

Here are some that are cut out but still need a hole, ribbon, and sleeve.

Lunch with Friends

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

We had lunch with some friends who moved out of state (job of course). They were in town because they still have not sold their house (yikes!) and are attempting to rent it. I can’t imagine living in an apartment somewhere, and paying a mortgage on a house I don’t live in. But these are our times. They put the house up around the same time we did, so I feel even more grateful for having found a buyer!

They are a fun couple and one of the few remaining who also don’t have kids. They were our go to friends for impromptu plans (as were we for them).

There was a lot of “Hey somebody gave us free passes to the baseball game tonight. Want to go?” and that sort of thing.

So many of our friends have moved away, it gets quite sad when I think about it. We are kind of home-bodies so it’s not like we are out making new ones! So I was glad when they called to meet for lunch. It gives us a chance to catch up on what’s going on with each other and have a few laughs.
