This just in…

Monday, March 31st, 2008

There is a bunch of news to talk about today folks!

Well, news might be overstating it a bit.

First of all, I came across this story about a swan that seems to have fallen in love with a giant swan shaped paddle boat. I just found that all kinds of hilarious and felt the need to share.

Then I found out that Kathy Lee is back. Even though there are a LOT of people that don’t like her, I always did. I especially like her better than Kelly. Kelly is just an idiot. However, having said all that, am I the only one that does not understand why they need FOUR hours of the today show. I personally can’t stand five minutes of it.

Apparently Brad and Angelina are still not married. Which I could care less about, but I mention it because of this quote from Brad:

In the October 2006 issue of Esquire, Pitt said that he and Jolie will only consider strolling down the aisle once gay marriage is legalized, saying, “Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.”

Er, ok. Do you really think people care so much about you that you are going to get gay marriage legalized by not marrying your girlfriend, that you will most likely break up with sooner rather than later anyway?

Oh No! Brad and Angie will never get married if we don’t legalize gay marriage! And they have all those kids!!! I better write a letter to my congressmen right now!

And Finally, for my knitting friends…I expect this for Christmas, so get working! Then all I need is that invisible plane.

Cold 1-Becky 0

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

My cold finally beat me today. I had been working through it and doing ok. It was not a bad cold, and with DayQuil, I have been cruising along.

Then today on the way out to the new house we stopped for a bagel sandwich. As soon as I was done, I thought it was not sitting well. Then as we were working I kept feeling light headed and just a little off.

Finally hubs sent me home to rest.

Which I did, with a 2 and 1/2 hour nap.

I guess I was a little tired. I still am. I have also been drinking mass quantities of water. But that’s what my Chiropractor always tells me to do when I don’t feel good. And seems to know stuff.

We were just finishing up cleaning for people to come look at the house tomorrow. We took a bunch of furniture out to the new place to make the old place seem “bigger”. However, it left the impressions in the carpet. I’m not sure how tacky that will seem to prospective buyers.

Needless to say, I did not get much work done today on the new house. I am still patching and sanding. Which seems to be a never ending job. I just want to start painting already!!

Now I plan to take a quick shower and go to bed for the night.

Apples part II

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

I have not formed all my thoughts into essay form yet, but here’s the concept. Which I had planned all along and did not in any way make this all up after the painting was all done. If anyone asks…

The artwork represents the circle of life (Fruit is often used as a symbol life in art, so I am not totally off base here)

The Apple Blossom Branch represents birth and new life.

The Sliced Apples represents changes in our life and the knife is the events that change us.

The seeds are a continuation of our lives after we are gone.

Keep with me…this is really deep...

The “floating” apples are our friends and family intersecting with us through out our journey.

The Apple Core signifies death ( a common theme in art, rotten or half eaten fruit as death. I can not take credit for that idea)

The Silhouetted Apple is the afterlife.

It was created using a variety of watercolor technique, pencil, and collage with mixed media.

I really think we might have a winner here.

Layered Apples

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Here are the apples I promised you a million years ago. This is my “Layerist” piece.

I knew I wanted to do a repeat of the same thing in different ways. I stole the idea from another painting I saw on line. Except that one was pears.
The main thing that I liked about the Pear one was the silhouette pear. The apple does not make as nice an outline, however.

I did try to think of something not in the fruit family, but could not. I ultimately decided on the apple for a couple of reasons. First, it is something that can be done in many different forms. And, more importantly, this show is juried by the public. So I wanted something that was recognizable, comfortable, and not too off the wall. AND I thought maybe someone might really like apples and want to buy it! (I’m not holding my breath…but you never know)
I would not say it is my best work ever, and I would not say that I will try “layerist” stuff again. It’s too weird.
Since we have to include a short essay describing our work and how it came about, I will share that load of crap brilliance in writing with you tomorrow.

I’m going to pump you up!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Tonight was spent going to Lowe’s loading drywall, going to the house, unloading drywall, then driving back across town to take the van we borrowed back.

Did you know they sell drywall in 2 packs? I didn’t either when I said I was able to help load and unload.

That stuff is HEAVY!

But I did it. I probably won’t be able to move tomorrow, but I did not wuss out.

And that is what is important here.

Oh, and I should probably mention that it is snowing, AGAIN. Honestly. The ice cream shop is open and the cat is shedding like 80 degrees is coming, so let’s get on with it already!

AI Notes

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Just a few notes about Tuesday’s Idol. (I know I am like 3 years late)I am writing from memory since I watched it last night.

How awesome was David Cook. I was not to sure about him at first, but after Hello and then Billy Jean.
A-MAZ-ING.

He takes these kind of off the wall songs and totally remakes them into awesomeness. That is talent.
Still in love with Brooke and Jason. I would like them to tour together, her on Piano and Him on Guitar. Even though they are being criticized for “doing the same thing” every week, I say if it’s not broke…

Carly totally kicked butt on that song. The judges are crazy! I agree about the last note. I would have preferred it if she ended soft, which would be unexpected.

I figured it would be Chikeze or Ramiele going home, even though I am really tired with blonde chick, whatever her name is. She sang the America song and it was like Miss America only worse.

I was glad to see my Austrailian boyfriend finally decided to BRING IT. Dude has been killing me! I knew he had it in him. Hopefully he’s able to keep up the momentum.

Oh, and little David that everyone loves was terrible and had a terrible song choice. Only Simon had the guts to call him out on it. Randy and Paula are rediculous. I don’t care if he looks like he’s 8 years old. He isn’t and he was terrible.

If there is anyone I missed they were apparently so boring I don’t remember.

Rock N Bowl

Monday, March 24th, 2008

No working on the house today because we have bowling. Which should be interesting since everything still hurts! So in leiu of my always interesting & exciting house updates we will talk about music!

In crazy list news…

I am not one of those people who know a lot about music. I often don’t even know who sings what songs. I am however, very good at remembering lyrics, even to songs I don’t like. But here is the hardest lyrics quiz ever. The words are listed alphabetically without repeat. What I found most interesting is how few words some songs use.

Like the Doors “Light my Fire”

a and baby be become can come couldn’t fire funeral get girl hesitate higher i if in is it know liar light lose love mire much my night no now on only our pyre say set that the through time to try untrue wallow was we would yeah you

and James Brown “I Feel Good”

and arms can’t do feel good got harm hey hold i in knew know like love me my nice no now so spice sugar that when whoa whoa-oa-oa won’t would wrong you

Seriously, that’s it. It’s like 30 some words, over and over.
In awesome news…

REM is streaming their new album on line until March 26th. They are my favorite band of all time. Early buzz is that it’s their best album in 10 years. Which is good because I think it was about 10 years ago that they put out a good album. Things went a little astray for a while there. But I love early REM, so I am excited. I wore out my tape (what are those?) of Document when I was in High School.

I am listening to it right now and other than my crappy laptop speakers, it’s sounding pretty good.

In skank news…

Even though I pledged to keep my blog Britney Free, She is guest starring on one of my favorite shows tonight. I have mixed feelings. They often have guest stars, but I am little afraid they are jumping the shark a little here. And there is always the train wreck scenario, where you don’t want to see, but can’t look away.

Oh, and Rock and Bowl is the name of my bowling league, so the title was perfect!

PS-The song “Until the Day is Done” is playing and it is VERY much old school REM. Lovin it!

The Weekend

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Yesterday we went up and celebrated Easter with Hub’s family. We had an Easter Egg hunt ( I got $2 and a bag of M&M’s), and ate (a lot), and visited. Normally we would spend the whole weekend, but we were antsy to get working on the new house.

Which we did today. And we worked hard and got a lot done.

First order of business was cleaning the toilet. So that we could use it and not catch the plague.

Then I started to clean up the kitchen sink. It’s one of those white ones and is pretty stained up. We are trying to determine if it is salvagable. I think it will be. The bathroom sink cleaned up like a dream, so that is no problem there.

I also cleaned out all the cupboard and closets of the crap they left behind. I will not share the nastiness of my findings.

Then I started demo. First was pulling up tackstrips. Which was much easier this time than our current home where they used every kind of nail imaginable (including roofing nails). Then I pulled nails out of the walls and filled the holes. There was a lot. Lady liked to decorate I guess.

Hubs was building some walls during this time. We ran out of 2X4’s, but luckily the old owners were kind enough to leave some around. Saved us a trip to the store!

Then it was on the trim. We are going to put in all new, so all the old stuff had to go. It was all mis-matched anyway. Hubs tore out all the door frames and the paneling in the buzz light year room.

We made a lot of progress today. I can see there are going to be a couple of coordination things that are going to be a challenge. The first is meals. I am going to have to have something quick, so that we can go out after work and get as much done as possible before bedtime. I think the crock pot may become my new best friend.

The other thing is general keeping of the old house. We won’t be here enough to dirty it too much. But there are things like dishes and laundry that will still have to get done.

It is so nice though to not have to live in the construction. We have been down that road before. This, we just leave a mess and come home to a nice clean house! It’s awesome. As much as owning two houses causes me great anxiety, it will be nice to have it move in ready (hopefully) when the time comes.

Well, the laundry needs to be re-booted, so it’s on to the next thing!

Our House, in the middle of the woods…

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Before I get to house updates… Remember that crocus I was so excited about on my birthday???

Well, it is covered with 8 inches of snow! I was going to take a picture, but it is too depressing. Those crazy weather liars said we would get 2 at most, and it would not stick around. Their pants are so on fire.

Well, after some chaos at closing and a 2nd trip, we are finally all set on the new house. Since we had to leave work early to sign 2 papers, we got a start on the work. I would like to say it looked better after we left, but not quite yet! We tore out carpet, ripped out some moulding, changed the locks (well hubs did all that). I was in charge of animal poop clean up.

I’m pretty sure I have the plague now. There were 3 shelves in this way back room (which I now refer to as the poop room) which were mouse condos. There were some nice little homes. They have been tore down to build a parking lot.

There was other poop on the floor, which I am choosing to believe was cat poop. If you have a different theory, please do not share it.

Hubs found some expenses disappointments Surprises! upstairs that will put some speed bumps in our plans. But that’s what you get with an old house I guess. You can’t tear everything apart before you buy it, so you never know what you might uncover.

The main issue we are dealing with is the floor. Does it seem wasteful to put new hardwood on top of old hardwood?

We had some new friends (deer) visit in the back yard, which is the reason we bought the house. I love wild life in my back yard! And yes I know, they eat all your landscaping. Which is why it will be kept to a minimum. I don’t want to be fighting with my new friends.

Updates

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I have not posted in a few days because things have been busy & stressful, so when I am able to stop and relax, I just go to bed.

There will be more details to follow, but here are some highlights as to what’s been happening.

We closed on the new house today, sort of. It was kind of crazy, but we have the key and went in and walked around and started ripping things apart a little.

We have people coming to look at the old house tomorrow morning, so we are doing a quick clean up for that. But it’s hard to clean with your fingers crossed…

I will still be having art class, sort of.  More details later on that one.

I finished my “layerist” art work, so I am hoping to have time to post some pictures of that this weekend. I have to write my essay that goes along with it. That should be interesting.
There will be no AI post, since I have not actually watched the show this week. And also I heard it was kind of boring. So I am in no rush. Also, The Beatles again??!!?? What is up with that? Paul trying to make back the dough he just lost to his ex-wife or what?

I heard that skunk head got the boot. Not sad about that at all.

I think that’s all. In addition to my insane personal life work has been crazy busy too. I haven’t been able to breathe in four days…

Oh, and the “I can make you lose weight” thing has been going pretty well, except I like to look at magazines while I eat lunch and that’s a no no. But I feel like a dolt sitting there concentrating on chewing. And I don’t always remember to put down my fork, but I did only eat 1/2 my dinner tonight. I left feeling full, but not gross. Which is an improvement, believe me.

I was up playing choose your own adventure all last night, so I better go finish my chores and crash into bed.
