Busy as bees

Friday, July 31st, 2009

This has been a very busy week. Monday I had dinner with my friend. Tuesday we had the baseball game. Wednesday we got our air conditioner and I would have had class, but I did not feel good so I stayed home and chilled. I have been working on some random projects around the house for the past couple of days.

The biggest one is painting the front door. I am hoping to get it done this weekend and have some before and after pics for you.

Tomorrow I have a big adventure in the morning with some friends. So that is exciting!

So basically this post is to tell you, I’m too busy to post anything worthwhile, but there will be fun stuff coming soon!

2nd rate Billy Joel

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

So I guess there is some musical with all Billy Joel songs in it and now they are touring, or at least the guy singing the Billy Joel songs is…I know this because I have heard it advertised on the radio that he’s coming to town…I don’t have the energy to google for accurate info because…

I don’t even want to hear Billy Joel sing Billy Joel Songs and now you want me to pay how much to see some other guy do it?

I don’t think so.

Take me out to the ballpark

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Heading off to the ballpark to see our local team play a game.

Who am I kidding, I’m going for the food.

Best part is we are special guest in a private box and all food and snacks are FREE.

Those are my favorite kinds of snacks.

Celebrate with a splash!

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Tonight I had dinner with my friend Pam to celebrate her sorta new job!

She’s been working there since December, but as a contract employee. This meant no benefits and essentially they could let her go at the end of contract (which they had extended like a billion times).

So now she is a for real employee and that is worthy of a celebration! I got so excited I dumped my water all over the table.

Or maybe I was just trying to pass the rolls and am a total klutz.Whichever.

She ran up to the bar and got a towel from the bartender and then I had to explain to the waitress why I needed a new napkin and a new drink.

She brought me a couple of napkins, just in case.

Here comes the rain again

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I wanted to work on some outside projects today and one of them was to finish the fire pit project. I had to level out some of the stones with sand and then fill in with pea gravel.

It ended up taking all day because I had to dodge the rain 3 different times. It goes from dark clouds and wind and rain to sunny with a pleasant breeze. During those pleasant times I put my shoes and gloves back on and headed out to work for an hour until the rain comes again.

I did finally get it filled in, so now we are all ready to have fires. I even bought marshmallows so we can s’more it up.

The best part is the old owners left the pavers for us and the gravel was leftover from last year’s drainage ditch project. So we did not have to shell out any money to get this one done.

I did not get any other outside projects done because I have kind of lost interest at this point.

Here’s a photo of the beautiful sky the other night on the way home.

Shroom and Swiss

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Have you ever tried making your own mushroom and swiss burgers at home? That’s what we had for dinner Thursday night. If you haven’t tried it, you should!

It’s so simple! I make foil packets filled with butter and mushrooms. That’s all you need for some tasty mushrooms.

After the grill is warmed up (medium temp) put them on the grill for about 5 minutes or so before the burgers go on.

Unless you have super fat big burgers. I buy the preformed kind and they only take about 10 minutes to cook. The shrooms take a little longer.

Also, if you are in the need of a side item, take some fresh green beans, butter (I do love to make veggies healthy with a side of butter), and thyme and put that in a foil packet. Throw that on when you do the shrooms.

If you do not have big fat burgers, put them on the grill 5-6 minutes for the first side. Close the grill and walk away for five minutes. Do not open the grill, do not even look at the grill.

After 5 or so minutes, flip the burger. Then walk away for 4-5 minutes.

When you come back you will have a juicy burger that is all ready for cheese. Put your swiss cheese on the burgers. I like to also put the buns on the grill open side down at this time. Close the lid for like a minute.

Put the burgers on the buns, open the mushroom packet and put some mushrooms on your burger. You can add some mayo if you like (I do like) and enjoy!

Oh and don’t forget the green beans!

Another really tasty option is to get some chicken breast and flatten them out so they are about 1/4 thin and use that instead of the burger. If you have not had a mushroom chicken burger, it will change your life.

Well, maybe not. But it is tasty!

PS- I use various Ms. Dash to season the meats and salt and pepper.

Clothesline Art Show

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Monday night we set up our art show at the arts council gallery. Here are some pictures (click on the pic to see more).
As you can see we have art hanging from actual clothesline!
I guess the point of a clothesline show is that it is kind of mix and match of different artists. We have some of the same themes or subject matter (since we do paint in the same room every week) but everyone’s style is different.
It was a lot of work hanging the show. It took over 3 hours!
We grouped each wall kind of by color and subject so that the paintings would compliment each other and not compete.
The clotheslines are a total mish mash, just like laundry day!
The show will be up for about a month and we are having a reception on the 6th.
The young man that paints with us sold one already, so I hope that is a good sign!

The Shred Day 1

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Tuesday was day one of the Shred.

Worst 20 minutes ever.

It is brutal. At one point she says “If you feel like you are going to die, you can take a break for five seconds. But no longer than that.”

Gee thanks. Oh and yes, I feel like I am going to die.

I actually prefer Jillian to the standard super hyper, freakishly upbeat ladies that are usually in exercise videos.

You are not going to cheerlead me into working harder. However, if you remind that I’m the one who bought this video and imply I would be kind of a loser to only to do it half way, that’s a different story.

Also, the video served as an important reminder as to why I don’t do group aerobic classes.

I look like a complete spaz when I try to do jumping jacks or anything else requiring the slightest bit of coordination.

IKEA

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Look the IKEA fairy was here!

Our big adventure while in Ohio was a trip to the new IKEA store. I have never been to an IKEA but have heard people go crazy for it.

I am not totally sold on the furniture, but you can’t beat the prices on their dishes! As you can see, we stocked up. Our bowls were looking pretty bad, not any more! We also “invested” in some half plate half bowl things like you see at restaurants for pasta or whatever.

I’m super excited about those. We are going to be so fancy.

If you’re idea of fancy is a $3 bowl plate thingy.

It was an experience, that is for sure. It is so huge. There is no way you could just run in and get something. I couldn’t even figure out where I was most of the time. Luckily they have arrows on the floor to keep you going in the right direction.

I was totally exhausted, it’s kind of like going to the flea market but with better displays.
