Therapy

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

My back has been bothering me (I think it’s stress) so I went to chiro-cracker on Monday and he fixed me up. But it was still really tight and sore (I think because I was sitting and sleeping all wierd trying to make it not hurt).

So tonight I went and got a massage. I am not generally a fan of strangers touching me, but I was ready to try anything. That guy that sticks needles in you is next on my list.

I had some money left on a gift card that I had been carrying around for a while for the spa. Then today, they sent me a $10 off coupon, so I figured it must be fate. With all that it only cost me $8.

I knew I felt better immediately when I was able to climb down off the table without cringing or wanting to just roll off on the floor because it seemed less painful that actually trying to stand up.

It’s still tender, but I am hoping it will be better by the end of the weekend. I am getting really tired. It has been next to impossible to find a comfortable sleeping position, so I have not been resting well at night. I am literally, very tired.

It was relaxing enough that I came home and took a little nap. I plan on taking it easy tonight and hitting the hay very early.

Top Five things to love this fall

Monday, September 28th, 2009

It is cold and rainy today, so we had grilled cheese and tomato soup. Since it’s so dreary outside, I figure it is a great day for a top five!

So here are the top five things I am LOVING right now

5. Cold weather food. I made chili the other day and busted out the old grilled cheese and soup combo tonight. I was contemplating a roast and my favorite beefy noodles with the leftovers. As much as I love the light freshness of summer fare, there is something to be said about the comfort of a good soup. I had some broccoli soup from Panera the other night and it absolutely hit the spot.

4. Fall TV. I am glad for new shows. As much as I enjoyed being addicted to HGTV all summer, it is time to mix it up a little. I’m not finding too many new shows that are must see (other than Glee, if you haven’t caught to the fact that I love that show) but I like getting caught up on some old favorites.

3. Taking the time to read. Even if it is a cheesy teen-romance novel. Books are so much different than TV or movies. I really let go of the real world when I read and step fully into the world of the book. It is especially nice when I am stressed out to just escape for a few.

2. ArtPrize. I haven’t even been down to see the exhibits yet and I am loving it. I love that there is a buzz all around my city about something positive, exciting, and fun. I love that over 28,000 people (so far) have taken enough interest in art to register to vote on it. I love that 159 business and countless donors and volunteers felt this was important enough to participate in. And I love that there is art all over town!

1. Raising Sand the album from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. I can’t say I am really a fan of either separately. But together, I am totally addicted. This is in heavy, heavy rotation on my Ipod and everytime I hear the familiar music it makes me happy. There is a Crossroads special on Palladia tonight with them that I am watching as I type this!

Now I am going to curl up with my book, my favorite music, and enjoy not being in the rain.

Embarrasment has a new name: Twilight

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I picked up a new book from the library the other day.

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.

I had to venture into the “Teen” section at the library. How embarrassing.

Like Harry Potter I was bound and determined to NOT read these books.

But everyone at work was reading them, and I hate to be left out of the discussion. Besides, who am I kidding? I am sucker for a trend.

So yes, I have begun reading the teen vampire romance series.

And I hate to say, it isn’t so bad…

Visit to the new(ish) museum

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

This afternoon hubs took me on a date to the local art museum. They built a new one a while ago and we had never been.

Architecturally, it is a very unique building and it has all kinds of “green” design things in it, which is cool

As for the art, it was a little lacking. Now they are in between special exhibits, so it was only their standard fare. But there just wasn’t very much in there.

The old building was small and they made it sound like they had a bunch of stuff in storage and couldn’t display it all.

I’m not so sure about that now.

My other complaint doesn’t lie with just this museum, but all art museums. There is no flow. There is a bunch of small rooms, but no flow from room to room. I’m always afraid I’m going to miss something.

If you’ve ever been to an IKEA, you recognize the idea of good flow.  There are even arrows on the floor telling you that you are in fact going in the right direction. These museums need to visit and IKEA and get this figured out.

The cool thing about the museum is the focus on American painters. I am not real familiar with American artists as the art world likes you think all great art happens in Paris. Now there are a lot of so called Americans that spent an awful lot of time in Paris (like almost their whole life) but it is something I would like to learn more about.

All in all in was a beautiful day to be walking around down town with a nice boy.

Random thoughts about my Ipod

Friday, September 18th, 2009

At my job we are set up in what is called a “collabrative work environment”. What this means, is no one has any doors and anyone can walk up and interrupt you at any time.

So since Em & I both have fancy pants I Pods, we’ve been listening to tunes while we work. As I explained to one of my co-workers “because I don’t have a door” . So when I put my ear buds in I say “I’m closing my door”.

Of course my favorite thing has been to get CD’s from library and put them in my tunes. This week I rented Coldplay’s new album.

Now at this point I must digress, to tell you that I do not like Coldplay and think they are one of the most over-rated bands in history. However, having said that, there is something about their song Viva La Vida that I just loved. It was a bit painful to admit at first.

So I got the CD because I liked that song and thought maybe they might have other songs I liked and I had mis-judged them. No I did not. Turns out, I just like the one song. They are still over-rated.

My new favorite thing that I just found out about is Pandora. I just learned about it and am disappointed that I did not know about this weeks ago! You put in artist you like (not Coldplay) and it plays other music it thinks you might like. And it’s free and it just plays all day.

ALL DAY. FOR FREE. TUNES I LIKE.

I am even more addicted to my I Pod now. I gotta say as much as I wanted one, I wasn’t sure how much I would really use it.

Turns out, about 6 hours a day.

Walking it out

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Hubs and I went for a walk tonight. Boy the days are getting shorter! It was getting quite dark by the time we got back. We went a little further than we planned (exploring a new route-which had a very steep hill) but we’ve been home about 15 minutes and it is pitch black now!

There is a chill the air too that comes quickly as the sun starts to go down. It was so sunny and warm when I got home from work I actually considered wearing shorts to walk. Glad I didn’t!

There is nothing like a good walk to de-stress. I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately and walking clears all that out.

I like walking with hubs vs. walking by myself. It gives a chance to just chat about this and that.

Also, I can’t give up and turn around early. Not that I would ever do that.

Studio Visits

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

We had some visitors in Studio tonight.

The first guy is an artist. He came to our show at the arts council and heard that we were a studio group. He was interested in finding out where we met and how it all worked. He doesn’t have a dedicated space in his house ( and it is nice to be able to leave your stuff out as you work on it) so he was hoping to join our group.

Then he saw our studio and I think he had a change of heart. It isn’t very big and we are kind of packed in there. We could have room for one more I think. But from the sounds of it, he’s a little more of a “real” artist, so I’m thinking he might have a lot of stuff.

The second lady teaches an art class for homeschool kids. She had seen our art around town and liked it. She just wanted to stop by and ask about technique and how we come up with ideas and stuff. Of course after she left I thought of a lot more things to say!

I’m going to see if I can get her email. I love art and I love homeschoolers, so it’s fun to help out! I am a big fan of getting all kids into art (imagine that).

I didn’t get a lot art done, what with all the visitors, but it was kind of cool that are little group is catching on!

Biggest Loser

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

The season opener of Biggest Loser is on. We went for a walk before hand to make up for all the TV watching.

Glad to see Dan is back. I felt bad when he got the boot last year. I am also glad to see Mike’s brother is on. I felt bad for him when Mike and his dad were losing all that weight and he was at home alone.

And if you don’t know who these people are, turn on your tv already!

Oh there is much drama already!
