New Teeth, er, I mean Moon
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009Last night I went to the movies with some ladies from work. New Moon.
It is imperative that you see this movie in a group, because it is way too embarrassing otherwise. Less people to make fun of you, since they were all there too.
I thought it was better than the first Twilight movie. But I also thought the 2nd book was better than the first. It also seemed like the upped the production value this time around.
There are a few things that are annoying and/or distracting, however. I found Bella (the main character, unfortunately) incredibly annoying, both in book form and the movie. For some reason I keep thinking she will be a less annoying character in the movie, but no, they play her pretty much on point.
The other annoying thing about Bella, well Kristin Stewart actually, is her giant chicklet teeth. Seriously, she should be building a dam somewhere.
I am also annoyed by Robert Pattinson’s teeth. At first I thought they were trying to give him some sort of pseudo fangs. But then I realized all the other vampires had perfect teeth. Turns out he just has bad teeth, and since the vampires are supposed to look “perfect”, this bothers me.
Well, that and the fact that I have issues with teeth. I find them very distracting. Even Jacob’s teeth were distracting. They seemed too white.
See? Issues.
The other thing about Edward that is weird (well other than the fact that I do not like him at all) is that his lips are red, like he just got done with a popsicle. Shouldn’t everything be pale, on account of the no blood flow and all?
Remind me again why I like these movies?
Perhaps I over-analyze. They are just meant to be fun, after all.
Wait until I review book 4, which I am almost done with. There are holes all over the place in that thing. Not to mention the fact that it is about twice as long as it needs to be. Apparently Stephanie Meyer fired her editor or something.
So, am I recommending New Moon? Absolutely, if you are a fan. Otherwise, you will just be irritated by all the bad teeth, and that’s no fun.
Holiday Roundup
Monday, December 28th, 2009I’ve been so busy celebrating the holidays and then recuperating from the holidays, I haven’t had time to post much lately. It was a whirlwind of friends, family, and food for the past week!
Hubs got me some new earrings like my old ones, but a little bigger (I lost one while trying on clothes at Kohl’s. It was devastating), so now my ears are not naked anymore. It was really driving me crazy. I have one other pair, but I lost the back and hadn’t made it to the store to get a new one.
He also got me a sweet Sigg Water Bottle. They are metal so that I won’t get cancer or something from all the plastic. And they are Swedish. Which is cool for some reason.
Santa put wool socks in my stocking, ironic no?
My BFF Jen hooked the kitties up with some homemade catnip toys, so they have been stoned since we got home.
Hubs wanted a small digital camera to take camping and stuff. I have a small digital camera that I take everywhere, but we have issues with sharing here.
Anyway, I went to the store and they only had one blue color. I remember when he got me my camera (see how this works) that there was only one blue color. So I was like, well, it’s the same, but I guess that’s ok.
When he opened it, we realized it was not the same blue, but a more girly teal blue. Hmm…I guess we could trade, since they are exactly the same otherwise…
So, yes I bought myself a new camera, and gave hubs a used camera. Funny how that worked out…
I also got him an Izod Shirt (because Izod is the main sponsor for Indy car, for those of you not interested in the know.)
Other highlights include Gift Cards (yeah!), a salad spinner (yeah!), an Amaryllis that is sure to die in the icebox I call my home, and a bunch of painting (home not art) supplies (how nice to have a sister that works at the hardware store!).
So all in all we had big fun and got sweet gifts. I guess we’ll do it again next year!
Merry Christmas!
Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, well except Maisy, because she was “it”.
The stockings were hung by the TV with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
Marvin was nestled all snug in his bed
while visions of cat nip danced in his head.
And hubs with his Mac, and I with my laptop,
had just settled our brains for a long winter’s internet search,
When down in the basement there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.
Away to the basement I flew like a flash,
ran down the stairs, and and looked all around.
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a fat grey kitty looking sheeping and
With a little black and brown girl, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Miss Maisy.
More rapid than eagles, and faster than those reindeer,
She hissed and growled and called him by name
Now Marvin! You are it! Tag is on!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all

Holiday Madness
Thursday, December 17th, 2009Somehow I went from being totally ahead of the game prior to Thanksgiving to feeling totally behind now that Christmas is a week away. I finally finished my shopping-so much for that head start!
Last night I printed, assembled, and addressed my cards. I took them right to the post office today, but it will probably be a Christmas Miracle if they get there before new years!
This weekend will be all about Cookies & Stinky Boys. All the boys will be here to supposedly go shopping for their wives (aka play video games). So while they are “shopping” I will be baking away!
In addition to my own holiday madness, I also have to drive right past the mall in order to get home. The traffic gets worse everyday up until Christmas, which makes me get home later and later. ugh…
The good news is, it will be here before I know it and then it will be all fun, food, and family.
Kitty Update
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009Maisy and I just got back from her follow up visit to the vet. She is pretty much all better (about 95%). Which I could have told you that, judging from all of the running around that’s been going on.
They are so funny there. I mean I know they are animal people and all, but they are sometimes a little crazy.
They are so appreciative of the fact that we rescued her from the Humane Society. Then today when I took her in the vet when on and on about how thankful she was that we were committed to taking care of her and that we did such a good job doing her meds like we were supposed to.
I just thought, well what else am I going to do? She’s my new baby, when we brought her home we pretty much committed to taking care of her.
She’s still sneezing a little and the vet heard a little bit in her chest, but they thought it should be clearing up soon. Her eyes are a million times better, although still had a little pink in them. Basically, it’s just a watch and see thing now. Make sure she doesn’t relapse. We have some vitamins to give her that is supposed to help.
I also have to say she was so good for me! I didn’t have any trouble getting her in the carrier and she just hung out all relaxed once we got there. Such a good girl!
Movie Review:Star Trek
Monday, December 14th, 2009Last night we watched the Star Trek movie and it was awesome! I had read online that it was one of the better action movies and that you did not have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy it.
Both of those things turned out to be true. It has one of the most intense opening sequences ever, and gets you into the action straight away.
Obviously, Captain Kirk, Spock and the gang are iconic figures in pop culture, weather you watch the show or not. So seeing them as young people and how they all came together was a really great twist. I loved the interactions and the moments of comic relief.
I am probably going to start some nerd war with what I am going to say next (although I’m not too worried, I trust the nerds to fight it out where it really counts…in there parents basement over the D&D board). The Star Trek movie does everything right in the way that the new Star Wars movies did everything wrong.
The times of exposition and explanation are brief and go along with action instead of interrupting. The comic relief is character based and not forced. The graphics and costumes are impeccable. The acting is spot on.
One of the best movies we’ve seen in a long time.
Disclaimer: We DID watch Paul Blart Mall Cop the night before, so my expectations may have been lowered a bit. It was not the worst comedy I’ve ever seen (Down Periscope) but it was quite possibly the stupidest premise ever.
Friday Nights
Saturday, December 12th, 2009Hubs put the first three seasons of Friday Night Lights on the Netflix streaming and I have been re-watching the first season.
I had forgotten how amazing that first season was. The 2nd and 3rd season were enjoyable, but nothing will beat this first season.
I can’t believe more people aren’t watching this show. The acting is so good and I so love the interactions between Coach Taylor and his wife. They are so sweet and funny.
I love this show!!
